Creating Your Own Backyard Oasis
With spring in full swing, and summer just around the corner, most of us are eager to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.
What’s that you say? Your backyard oasis is actually a backyard in crisis! Unless you’ve been carefully tending to your yard, there’s a good chance your outdoor spaces could use some TLC.
Don’t worry, we have “Plenty” of recommendations for creating your own private backyard oasis this spring.
Plenty of green
Think of greenery as the backdrop for everything else that goes into your yard. Think of plants in terms of their function. Some plants create shade, some plants create privacy, while other plants are showy focal points. For added interest, use plants with sweet-smelling flowers, vibrant colors or unique shapes. Greenery can make or break an outdoor space.
Plenty of privacy
While you’re planning your garden, and where to put specific plants, be sure to use some to establish some privacy. You can’t truly relax when the neighbors are too close for comfort. You may not want an unsightly privacy fence all along the property, but using plants to create a few private nooks promotes a sense of solitude and relaxation.
Plenty of seating
If you are planning on doing any backyard entertaining, be sure to provide plenty of seating options. You don’t have to default to the standard (homely) folding chair when you have options such as daybeds that invite lounging, or picnic tables perfect for dining.
You may also consider non-traditional seating such as swings, hammocks and other unique options. Whatever you choose, just be sure that plenty of comfortable seating is available.
Plenty of light
Consider hanging string lights over the seating area to add ambiance, or place torches throughout the yard if lawn games are on the agenda. Either way, plenty of good lighting ensures your outdoor oasis is fully functional, even after dark.
Plenty of shade
During the afternoon hours, when Florida’s sun is blazing hot, be sure to provide your guests with plenty of shade. As we mentioned earlier, you can use greenery to provide shade, but planting large shade trees can be expensive and takes a long time for the tree to mature.
In the meantime, consider using shade sails, shade umbrellas, or vine-covered pergolas to block the sun’s scorching rays.
Plenty of Sound
Add a water feature to make a splash in your backyard. Installations can be as simple as a birdbath or as complex as a full-on fountain. A water feature, of any kind, is sure to make a splash in your backyard oasis.
If soft and soothing music is more your style, pick up a simple Bluetooth speaker or invest in an outdoor speaker system.
Follow these tips, and before you know it, your backyard oasis will be ready for a spring and summer filled with plenty of rest and relaxation.
Now get outside and enjoy plenty of sunshine.
