Snell Isle
Just over the historical Snell Isle Bridge from downtown St. Petersburg is the neighborhood of Snell Isle, featuring multi-million-dollar waterfront mansions and estates, historic Mediterranean villas, mid-century homes, luxury condominiums, as well as some newer construction. Named for local developer, C. Perry Snell (1869-1942), Snell Isle was predominantly developed in the 1920’s drawing heavily upon European Spanish architectural aesthetics. The lavish and ornate Mediterranean Revival-style villas appealed to the wealthy elite of the time. As then, Snell Isle continues to be considered one of the most exclusive and coveted addresses in the Tampa Bay area.
In 1927, C. Perry Snell opened the Snell Isle Golf Club with a lavish, Moorish inspired clubhouse at the end of Snell Isle Boulevard. Today, the clubhouse still stands and is now known as the Renaissance Vinoy Golf Club and Resort, which boasts of an 18-hole championship course. This treasured landmark is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Snell Isle is also home to St. Petersburg Woman's Club, built in 1929 (the land for which was a gift to the city from C. Perry Snell), and to the St. Petersburg Yacht Club’s Snell Isle Marina, which boasts deep water slips and direct access out to Tampa Bay.
For his generosity and many contributions to the city, a monument with a brass plaque is erected to honor C. Perry Snell on Snell Isle Blvd.
Snell Isle residents are truly living the Florida Dream: an idyllic neighborhood with stunning homes, waterfront parks with breathtaking views, golf courses, civic venues and other amenities, all within close proximity to the restaurants, bars, museums, and performing arts venues that downtown St. Petersburg has to offer.
